Operating stands for--- Operate anything such as computer, phone, etc.
The system stands for------ A place where things are operating & controlling.
We can say that the operating system is like a manager for our computer system Which controls the whole system like on computer mobile phones. The operating system is a medium between users There are so many companies who are making many different types of operating systems. Such as Windows, Android, Macintosh, Linux, Symbian, Unix, etc. In the computer field, the WINDOWS is a very famous operating system. In the field of Smartphones ANDROID is a very famous operating system. Apple is a hardware company that uses only MACINTOSH operating system. Before some time NOKIA company was using SYMBIAN.
Definition of OPERATING SYSTEM
The operating system is system software. The operating system is an interface between humanware hardware. It helps the user to get his work on the computer phones. It controls manages all functional activities from beginning to end. An operating system manages the entire functioning such as--
- 1. Log on or Log off.
- 2. Process management
- 3. Software and hardware management.
- 4. Security and network management.
- 5. User and Display management.

An Operating system acts on an interface between hardware & humanware. We have two types of interfaces.
1. GUI
2. CUI
1. GUI (Graphical User Interface) -
It is a user interface where menus, icons, drop-down Menu, popup menus, search bar,s, etc. are provided.
- A. This interface is very user-friendly.
- B. Working is very simple on this type of interface.
- C. Icons are shown to the screen.
- D. A help bar is provided.
- E. Attracting screen.
- F. No need for proper learning & practice.
- G. Learnable interface.
2. CUI (Commendable User Interface)
It is an interface where none of the icons, menus, dropdown menu, popup menu, and search bar is provided.
- A. This interface is not user-friendly.
- B. Working is very difficult on this type of interface.
- C. None of the icons shown on the screen.
- D. Dark & Boring screen.
- E. Proper need of knowledge & practice.
- F.You have to know all the commands clearly.
There are mainly three main components of the Operating system.
- 1) User interface.
- 2) Kernel
- 3) File management system
USER INTERFACE -- A major part of the user interface has been described above. It is a medium between the user & the computer system.
KERNAL -- Kernal is the core of the operating system. Which is responsible for the loading & running of applications &It also mange the input & output.
FILE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM -- The file management system is what the operating system Uses to organize & manage files. Most of the operating system uses a hierarchical file system.
This is also known as a tree storage architecture system.
