TOPOLOGY--

Network topology is the arrangement of the elements of a communication network. Network topology can be used to define or describe the arrangement of various types of telecommunication networks, including command and control radio networks, industrial field busses, and computer networks.

Some topology are----

  • 1. BUS Topology
  • 2. STAR Topology
  • 3. RING Topology
  • 4. TREE Topology
  • 5. MESH Topology
  • 6. HYBRID Topology

Bus Topology—A bus network is a network topology in which nodes are connected in a daisy chain by a linear sequence of buses.

· It is easy to set up & costs very little.

· Cable length for it is least compared to another network.

· Mostly used in small networks. Good for LAN.

STAR Topology— Star topology is one of the most common network topologies. A star network features a central connection point called a HUB NODE / NODE HUB / SWITCH / ROUTER.

· Better performance

· Easy to connect new nodes or devices.

Disadvantage—Dependency, Higher Costs

RING Topology— In this topology computer connects in a circular fashion & the data travels in one direction.

Advantage— Very Ordered network, Error Finding is easy

Disadvantage—

· One Error can create problems for to the entire network.

· Moving/ changing/ adding devices affect it.

· Difficult to troubleshoot.

TREE Topology—This is a combination of bus & star topology. Multiple star topologies are connected in a bus topology.

Advantage—Point-to-point wiring for individual segments.

Disadvantage—

· Overall length of each segment is limited.

· More difficult to configure the error.

· Entire segment goes down if the backbone line breaks.

MESH Topology—In this type of network each computer connects to each other. every node must be wired to every other node difficult to add nodes.

Advantage—

.Can handle a high amount of traffic easily.

.Failure of one device can't affect the working of other setups.

Disadvantage—

. The implementation cost is higher than any other topology network.

. Building & Maintaining is difficult.

HYBRID Topology— A hybrid topology is a type of network topology that uses two or more differing network topologies. These topologies can include a mix of bus topology, mesh topology, ring topology, star topology, and tree topology.
